This week’s message

This week we are making the final preparations for the reports that will be released on Fri. This is an important part of student learning and we thank everyone for the efforts they put in! See the timeline below for reports, or check the 'Semester Information' button on top of this page.

On this page, you will see information about

  • gathering exemplars of assessed work,
  • Personal Project information,
  • and displays of vision and mission and how these displays connect to the IB standards and practices.

Timeline for Reports

Samples of assessed student work:

The IB office has been asking departments for samples of assessed work for MYP and DP. Many departments are well along with this process and we would like to thank you for the work on this. It is important not only as evidence for IB, but as exemplars that can be used for professional development, support for students next year, and is part of our PGD.

This needs to be completed by Friday, Jan 19

Time will be put aside in your department meeting this week to help finish this.

MYP: Each Department, 3 samples of assessment, Low, Med, High for each grade level

1 medium sample submitted to the IB office

Details have been shared with the HODs. See your HOD if you have questions.

Personal Project Corner

The personal project is the single most significant piece of academic work our students have completed in their entire lives. It is the Capstone of the MYP and a good indicator of how students will succeed in the DP.  The PD we do with Personal Project is important because:

  • This is a window for DP teachers to see the skills and abilities of our students as they get ready to make DP course selections and join our DP courses next year
  • It is assessment PD to develop common understandings of how to apply criteria across subjects
  • It can be identified in the PGD as evidence of 'Professionalism' or 'professional knowledge' or 'assessment for and of learning'.

We would like to thank everyone for the work they have put in to help students with this!

Up-coming dates, please mark it on your brand new 2018 calendar:
·                   Jan 22  Mon, Students Submit the Report
·                   Jan 22 Mon, PD for all teachers on Clarification of Criteria A,B,C,D and roles for grading teams.
·                   Jan  25 Thurs Exhibition (Teachers can visit their student and see their work)
·                   Mon Jan 29 Work in Teams standardizing grades
·                   Wed Jan 31 Work in Teams standardizing grades

Click here for the PP teacher guide we will be using PP Teacher Companion

See page 12-20 for task-specific clarification. This is the most detailed information we have to work with. Also, see the Personal Project tab above for more information.

Around School

Thank you for taking part in last Monday afternoon's Learner Profile Attribute PD. Hopefully, it gave you a chance to think about the Learner Profiles, get a view of the larger school community and get to meet colleagues you don’t often see.

You may have noticed that in conjunction with this when you arrived at school last Monday there were new Learner Profile, School Vision and Mission and ATL posters on the door of every classroom.

·        The school vision and mission is why we are all here; to develop “lifelong learning
·        The Learner Profile Attributes have been adopted as the school wide outcomes
·        The ATL skills are the school wide competencies

You will also see these LPs and ATLs on the ‘Happening this week’ update each week.
We will be visiting and revisiting these themes throughout the year.

The door display below relates to the following IB Standards and Practices:

Standard A. Philosophy: The school's educational beliefs and values reflect the IB philosophy

Practice C3.16. Teaching and learning develops the IB learner profile attributes.

Practice C3.5. Teaching and learning supports students to become actively responsible for their own learning.

Thank you and have a great week,

Patrick and Ram
