This Weeks Message

It is another short week this week, with no school Friday. Tues and Weds there will be special PD on Cognitive coaching from Ochan Powell (That is Ochan Powell of the ‘expertise does not have past tense’ fame) for more on Cognitive Coaching see http://www.thinkingcollaborative.com/seminars/cognitive-coaching-seminars/

As the goldfish picture at the top shows, if we understand each other we can work toward common goals. The workshop is all about understanding each other.

The year 10 students should be meeting with their advisors, and they have a submission of their part A draft due on Thursday. See the Personal Project Corner Below for more details. You can also see the Personal Project Tab at the top of this page. If you still have questions, contact Ibu Popy.

Last week we met in Year Level IDU teams for the first time. The list of IDU can be seen in the IDU corner below.

Building Quality Curriculum (BQC)

Semester 2 last year we got the report back for the work we sent last October 2016. This has been shared with the Department Heads to help guide future planning.
Over the next few weeks, departments will be asked to review units completed in June to send in during Sept

Here is an excerpt from the overall feedback from last October’s submission:

Most of the teachers at Global Jaya School have developed rich statements of inquiry that have the potential to support transferable understanding and direct purposeful learning. The statements of inquiry are communicated in student-friendly language that invites inquiry and engagement.

The units reviewed demonstrate that most teachers are familiar with the current subject guides and include prescribed concepts, contexts and some approaches to learning skills in their planning.

Please note, many of the units reviewed are already outdated because we made so much progress last year with units, therefore the theme of the feedback should be considered over the actual content.

Resources: One theme that appeared often was about the importance storing resources in the unit planner.

Reflection: Another theme is the importance of providing full and complete explanations of what is happening in the unit, including in the reflection sections.
