Mock Exams

Year 12 will be writing GJS Final MOCK Examination between Feb 12 - Feb 26, 2018, in MPH, B 32-33 and B 34-35. Kindly support them and keep the exam venues quiet.'

How to Deal with late or missing work; MYP

Please see P 17-20 of the MYP DP Teacher Guide

Gather work throughout the unit to create a learning continuum. If a student does not hand in the final piece, grade what you have.

This procedure is reccomended by the handbook of procedures for the MYP. If incomplete work is graded, such submission may be "self-limiting" in their levels of achievement (Handbook 27).

If a student has not handed in any work throughout, contact the parents before the final piece is due. Give a 0 if there is no evidence at all (Handbook 27). Such cases are rare when the teacher follows through and supports the student with feedback and communication.

Term 3 Report

We are halfway through Term 3 and want to be sure we are ready for report writing when that moment arrives.

To help you plan, here are the requirements for the T3 MYP report

  • The report will include the criteria assessed in T3 (At least one must be assessed before writing reports)
  • The criteria not assessed will be carried over from the Semester Report and combined with the T 3 assessments to generate a 1-7 grade
  • Tickbox for the ATL skills in the T 3 unit(s).
  • Dropdown box for evaluation of ATL
  • Generic class comment

This can be found on the tab above ‘Semester Information’.

Classroom Environments

This Monday afternoon we will work to update our classroom learning environments based on the room assignments we received. The understanding is that teachers will be given responsibility for a room, but many other teachers and lessons may be hosted in the rooms.

Advice for creating shared classroom environments

Do not feel the need to over decorate (unless you are Picasso or Martha Stewart, then go for it). This is not a comptetion to find the best interior designer. The classroom environment should represent the type of learning we have and invite learning, not distract students.
  • Be sure the emergency information is on the wall, contact GA if it is not
  • Be sure the Vision/Mission, LP and ATLs are on the door. Fix them if needed
  • Replace or fix any paper that is torn, falling, water stained, faded
  • A bulletin board or part of one can be dedicated for showing student work- or the Subject Group can agree on a hallway board for student work.
  • Be sure the bulletin boards are not filled with torn, falling, water stained, faded paper
  • Part of a bulletin board can show examples of tests, assessments, task sheets, exemplar work, assessment Objectives for that Subject Group.
  • Part of a bulletin board can show the current units (Global Contexts, Concepts, Statement of Inquiry) for the department
  • Learner Profiles and Command Terms should be displayed. See the ‘Classroom checklist and guidelines’ that has been shared.
  • Arrange student’s seats so that students can view the whiteboard or projector no matter the style of seat arrangement, and the teacher can monitor easily monitor the students.

Departments are posting up their ‘Subject Group Overviews’ on hallway bulletin boards.

You can find the subject group overviews on the school web page at http://www.globaljaya.com/index.php/2014-09-16-01-18-19/middle-school-programme
