This Week’s Message
We have a short week this week
again, with the gift of time given to us on Thursday. Please remember to plan
going forward as time this term will start running down, and we want to be sure we
smoothly finish up our units and grading without unnecessary stress for
ourselves, our colleagues or students. See the T4 tab above for information on
end of term exam dates and report card writing timelines. Our PD this week is
focused on report writing both Monday and Weds. Please see the GJS MPY-DP
Teacher Guide for information on end of semester grades.
We will have four mini-workshops
this week on establishing end of semester grades in MYP. Please see information
below.
DP exams have begun, see below. We
would like to thank all the teachers involved and all those who helped prepare
the students.
Last week the coordinators conducted walk throughs with Learning Objectives and Approaches to Teaching in mind. We noticed good use of Command Terms and word walls, as well as evidence of this in the Unit Planners. See the "Best Practice" tab above for more information on walk through feedback.
Last week we also had our “Digital
Horizons” PD. Please see the “Resources” tab above for more information about
the sessions and the tools. Last week we also had some walk throughs with the
coordinators. See the “Best Practice” tab above for information about the best
practice we have observed and how we can apply and broaden this practice.
Remember this week we have the TSAN
on Weds, and Y 9 students are taking the national exam on Monday.
Teacher Humor
Teacher to student: "You missed school yesterday, didn't you?"
Student to teacher: "No, not really."
Mini Workshops on end of Semester grades in MYP
The end of term is just around the corner, and we want to be sure
everyone is prepared to navigate through this with as little stress and as few
surprises as possible.
To this end, we will be holding 4 mini workshops on how to
establish the MYP end of term 1-7 grade to be sure everyone is confident in
their report writing.
Teachers who have to write MYP report cards must select which one
they want to attend. All MYP teacher must attend one of them by the end of
the week.
We want to be sure all the MYP teachers have had the same
professional conversations and everyone has had the chance to develop a shared
understanding of grading.
Select one of the following workshop times to attend if you
are writing MYP reports.

DP
Our Year 12 students is starting their IB Final Exam on 28 April 2017, we would like to highlight the following points that we, as the exam invigilator should know:- Each invigilator must give his or
her whole attention to the supervision of the examination. It is not
permitted for an invigilator to engage in an activity (for example,
reading or marking candidates’ work) other than supervising the
examination. Any conversation between invigilators must be brief, quiet
and confined to discussing matters relating to the examination in
progress.
- At least one invigilator must walk
around the room at regular intervals, without disturbing the candidates,
to ensure that no candidate is engaging in any form of academic
misconduct. Invigilators must not remain in one place for a long period,
but when moving about the examination room they must avoid distracting the
candidates.
- It is suggested that one
invigilator be seated at the back of the room so that candidates cannot
determine which part of the room that invigilator is observing.
- During the examination the
invigilator must keep an accurate record of any events, such as a
temporary absence (for example, requires the bathroom or illness), and if
a candidate is cautioned for misconduct (record the name of the candidate
and the nature of the misdemeanour).
- Do not leave candidates unsupervised
at any time. If an invigilator must leave the examination room, another
invigilator must remain to supervise the candidates.
- Other than candidates for the
examination, only the head of school, coordinator, invigilators and
authorized IB inspectors are allowed into the examination room. No other
person should be given access, except in an emergency or with
authorization from the Assessment Division, IB Global Centre, Cardiff
- Candidates must not be allowed to
leave the examination room during the first hour or during the last 15
minutes of an examination (subject to 15.6 below). Consequently,
candidates must not be allowed to leave the examination room if the
duration of the examination is one hour and 15 minutes or less.
- Candidates must leave the examination
room in a quiet and orderly manner, taking only their personal belongings
with them. Candidates must not take any examination paper, data booklets,
answer booklets or graph paper out of the room.

Following in the spirit of our
Digital Horizons PD, this a blog that looks at the SAMR model for understanding
how technology is used in the classroom. This can help us reflect on how we use
tools like Managebac, Easybib, Grammarly, Encyclopedia Britiannica, Turn it in
and more.

ReplyDeleteI think this week will be dedicated for report comment development
I wonder how IDU could really help the students
-aryo-
...And I wonder where the 4 mini workshops will be held...
ReplyDeleteToday's will be in the same venue as the staff meeting, I think MPR1, right after the meeting. And for the tin of cookies, do you have a SEE and THINK...
DeleteI see the reporting timeline for semester 2.
ReplyDeleteI think that the points for exam invigilators are very clear.
I wonder what the difference is between functional improvement and significant task redesign.
