This Week’s Message

It is the last week of the Semester as well as a shortened week with a half day on Friday. Year 11 students will be out this week at CAS camp, and Y10 students will take a career and personality test Monday Morning. See the section below for an update on Y 10 subject selection for Y11.

Next semester we will be building upon our focus on the school Vision and Mission by developing our understanding of the Learner Profile Attributes as our official School-Wide Outcomes, and the ATL skills as our official Global Competencies. Please see the graphics at the bottom of this page.

Our first day back will involve a half day of PD looking at how the LP's are expressed throughout the school K-12.

Samples of work: The IB office has been asking departments for samples of assessed work and completed units for DP, and assessed work for MYP (MYP already has  BQC unit samples). Please talk to your HOD if you have questions.

Report Writing: As we focus on report writing see the Semester Information tab above for important reporting dates.

Grades: Also, as we prepare for semester grades, please see the section below on how to determine semester grades in MYP. It can be found in the MYP-DP Teacher guide Click Here and the MYP Parent-Student Guide which is shared on the school webpage http://www.globaljaya.com/index.php/2014-09-16-01-18-19/middle-school-programme

MyIB: This month the IB is closing down the OCC and switching to MyIB. For an IB video guide to the PRC click here https://vimeo.com/242120398

End of Semester MYP Grade
Determining the final level of achievement for a criteria- MYP
In order to determine the final level of achievement for a criteria at the end of a semester, the following questions should be asked:
a. What does the most recent evidence tell us about the student’s level of achievement?
b. What is the “Highest sustained achievement” in that criterion since the beginning of                        the year?
c. In your best professional judgment, based on all available evidence, which grade level descriptor best fits the student achievement in this criterion at this time?
Below are examples of summative grades for a specific criteria, and how the final level of achievement for that criterion were determined.
Examples: Criteria C

3
4
3
Final Level: 3
Best sustained + most recent evidence. There is no progression of improvement. 4 was not sustained, three is the highest sustained level.

2
4
5
Final Level: 5
First mark is the start of a clear progression towards the current achievement of 5, the most recent evidence. Assuming learning continuums and formative assessment also demonstrated this progression, 5 would be appropriate. If not 4, because 5 has not yet been sustained, and the progression is not fully supported by other work.

5
5
3
Final Level: 5
Best sustained overrides most recent. Assuming the formative assessment and learning continuums demonstrated sustained achievement in this descriptor, the 3 could be considered “Anomalous”.  However, if the summative 3 is matched by formative assessments and learning continuums that show the 5 is not sustained and the 3 is not anomalous, a 4 could be considered.
